Development, migration & security

Since 2015, on a full-time or part-time basis, Ilya has been working in East Africa and beyond on policy projects.

He worked as a contractor for the British government in security-sector reform in Somalia between 2015 and 2018.

He switched his focus to migration research after 2018, working in Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp.

In 2019 he carried our research on behalf of Save the Children on migratory routes for children on the move among various countries in eastern and northeastern Africa.

His research and policy work has allowed him to continue learning, traveling and staying connected to East Africa where he spent a big chunk of his career.
